The Commission On Hunan Rights,
Having in mineral Assembly resolution 55/178 of5 December 1980 by which the Commissionsted to complete as a matter of urgency,  at It a thirty-seventh session,  the grafting of a  convention on torture and other cruel,   inhuman or degrading treatment   or punishment,   and  resolution   1980/52  of   2   May  1960   by  which   the Economic and Social Council  authorized a meeting of an open-ended working group of the Commission on Human Rights for a period of on´ week prior to its thirty-ninteenth  session to complete the work on a draft  convention against torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment,
Recalling  that   ouch  a  draft   convention  has   been  discussed   in  a  working group prior to  and during  the  thirty-seventh  session  of  the  Commission  but   that   it   was not   found   possible  to   complete  the  work   during  that   session,
Noting with  satisfaction  the  progress  made   by  the   open-ended   working group  on the draft convention during the thirty-seventh session,
Desiring to make  arrangements: to   expedite the work on the draft   convention with a  view  to  its   early  adoption.

3.      Recommends that   the Economic and Social Council should adopt the following resolution:
"The Economic and Social Council,
Recalling General Assembly resolution 55/176 of 15 December 1980 by which the Commission on Hunan Rights was  requested to complete as a natter of urgency,  at its thirtyóseventh session,  the drafting of a convention on torture and other cruel, inhuman  or degrading treatment   or punishment,   and  resolution  1960/32 of  2 May  1980 by which the Economic and Social Council  authorized a mooting of an open-ended working group of the Commission on Hunan Rights for a period of   one week prior to its thirty-seventh session to complete the work on a draft convention against torture and other cruel,   inhuman or degrading treatment  or punishment,
Considering that  it  was not   found possible  to complete the work or. the convention  during  the.   thirty-seventh   session of  the Commission,
Taking note of Commission on Human Rights resolution ...   (XXXVII),
1.    Authorizes a Meeting of an open-ended working group for a period of one week prior to the thirty-eighth session of the Commission on Hunan Rights to complete the work on a draft convention against  torture;
2.    Requests the Secretary-General   to transmit   to the Concussion on Human Rights at its thirty-eighth session all   relevant material  relating to the draft  convention."
