Amendments
A. AMENDMENTS SUBMITTED BY KENYA
Preamble
Delete original paragraph 8 and replace with following new paragraphs:
Convinced that the establishment of a new international economic order will contribute significantly toward the promotion of equality between women and men, and in particular the elimination of the prevailing inequitable relationship between developed and developing countries which limits the latter's capacity to advance the position of women,
Emphasizing that the eradication of colonialism, all forms of racism and racial discrimination, and foreign domination is a prerequisite for the elimination of discrimination against women and enjoyment of their right to self-determination,
Affirming that the strengthening of international peace and security, disarmament, friendly co-operation among States irrespective of their social and economic systems are necessary conditions for the promotion of equality between men and women.
Article 2
Subparagraphs b to g
Delete the phrase "accompanied try sanctions" in the second line, subparagraph b.

Delete subparagraph c for the simple reason that the provision is already subsumed under subparagraphs a and b of the same article.
Delete subparagraphs c and f and rename present d as c, e as d, and g as e. Add new paragraph f as follows:
Each State party shall promote and give publicity to programmes and projects for the advancement of women.
Article 4
Subparagraph 1
Delete "and shall be discontinued when the objectives of equality of opportunity and treatment have been achieved" because this portion of the article is already catered for in the phrase "of temporary special measures on the first line of the article.

Subparagraph g: in the French text, replace the verb "S'engage" with the verb "s'efforce". /Does not affect the English text./
Article 15
Paragraph 3: replace the words "single parents" with the words "single mothers". 1/
C. COMPROMISE TEXT SUBMITTED BY THE CHAIR
Mew paragraph 9 (former paragraph 6)
Affirming that the strengthening of international peace and security, relaxation of international tension, mutual co-operation among all States irrespective of their social and economic systems, general and complete disarmament, (and in particular nuclear disarmament), under strict and effective international control, the elimination of colonialism, (neo-colonialism) (foreign domination) and racism in all their forms, including apartheid, the affirmation of the principles of justice, equality and mutual benefit in relations among countries, and the right to self-determination are of paramount importance in promoting fundamental rights, in the achievement of which women should play their full part,
1/ This translation is based on the assumption that the intention of the French text of the amendment is to replace not the word "parents", which does not appear in the original text, but the words "un parent sans conjoint" with the words "une mere celibataire".

Convinced that the establishment of a (new international economic order) (new socio-economic order) in which women and men participate equally in development and decision-making processes at all levels will contribute to the full realization of equality between men and women.
