Proposed amendments to the draft Convention on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (1732/218, annex IV)
A. AMENDMENTS SUBMITTED BY KENYA
Article 5
Delete "motherhood", in line 1 of paragraph 2 and replace with "parenthood". Article 9, paragraph 1
Delete old paragraph 1 and restate as follows:
1. The States Parties shall grant spouses equal rights to acquire, change, or retain their nationality. They shall ensure' in particular that neither marriage to an alien, dissolution of such marriage nor change of nationality of either spouse shall automatically change the other spouse's nationality or render him or .her stateless.
Article 10
In subparagraph (b), add the following clause at the end of the
subparagraph:
so as to eliminate any stereotyped concept of masculine and feminine roles at all levels and in all forms of education;
Delete subparagraph (c).
Article 11
In subparagraph (a), insert the phrase "and benefits accruing therefrom" between "work" and "as".

Article 12
Place number 1 "before the existing first paragraph and in subparagraph (c), after "extension services" add: "to improve inter alia the technical efficiency in their work performance".
Add a new paragraph 2 to read as follows:
2. State Parties shall undertake all measures necessary to improve living conditions of rural women, particularly in fields of housing, water supply, health services, transport and communications.
Article 19
Bring this article into' the main body of the Convention under the subheading "Implementation" or have it placed as an annex to the Convention.
Additional article on reservations
Place this article "between articles 21 and 22, so that former article 22 continues to "be the last article of the Convention.
B. AMENDMENTS SUBMITTED BY THE UNION OP SOVIET SOCIALIST REPUBLICS
Article 11
Add the following subparagraph (d) to paragraph 2:
"(d) To establish and develop a wide network of children's institutions, to pay maternity "benefits, to grant allowances and benefits for large families, and to provide other kinds of family allowances and assistance."
