UNITED NATIONS ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL COUNCIL Distr. GENERAL E/CN.4/L.1418 26 January 1979 Original: ENGLISH COMMISSION ON HUMAN SIGHTS Thirty-fifth cession Items 3 and 13 of the provisional agenda ORGANIZATION OF THE WORK OF THE SESSION QUESTION OF A CONVENTION ON THE RIGHTS OF THE CHILD Letter dated 23 January 1979 from the Permanent Representative of Poland to the United Nations Office at Geneva addressed to the Director of the Division of Human Rights With reference to item 3 of the provisional agenda of the forthcoming thirty-fifth session of the Commission on Human Rights, and in view of the importance of the question of an. early conclusion of a convention on the rights of the child (item 13 of the provisional agenda)-, I have the honour to transmit through you to all members of the Commission the request of the Government of the Polish People's Republic to establish a working group to elaborate and agree upon a draft of the said convention to be ready for adoption by the General Assembly at Its thirty-fourth session. In. view of the scope of the task of the working group to be established it is important that this group would be convened and start its work during the first week of the session. My Government is convinced that an early establishment of the working group in question is one of the necessary conditions for the Commission on Human Rights to implement the resolution of the General Assembly 33/166 of 20 December 1978. May I ask you, Sir, to be so good as to circulate this letter as an official document of the Commission before the opening of its forthcoming session, (Signed): Dr. Bogumi SUJKA Ambassador Permanent Representative GE.79-10347
